Foster University Offers a Variety of Study Rooms

Foster University offers a variety of Foster study rooms for students. These spaces are available to students seven days a week from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., and students can reserve them online. They are equipped with six chairs, a large table, a whiteboard, and a computer with HDMI cables.

Foster Business Library

The Foster Business Library is a convenient space for students to study. It is available to all students and staff of the Foster School of Business. The library provides access to over 300 business journals, specialized business databases, and expert librarians. It also features comfortable study rooms and computers with updated software. You may reserve a space for as little as three hours per day, and you can make a reservation up to two weeks in advance.

Study rooms are available for up to four students or groups. They are available for reservation online or on site. The study rooms are equipped with large tables, whiteboards, and monitors. Some have DVD players and wireless internet. Students may also study in study pods located near the computer lab and equipment checkout.

The Foster Business Library has eleven group study rooms available to students, faculty, and staff. Group study rooms are reserved two weeks in advance. Foster Auditorium

The multi-purpose Foster Auditorium at the University of Alabama was built in 1939 as a Works Progress Administration project. It has served the University’s various needs, including graduations, lectures, concerts, and large gatherings. The auditorium also hosts Alabama basketball and women’s sports events. Its history includes a role as a World War II training center.

A surprisingly low percentage of people know about the history of the building. Although it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Foster Auditorium is not a popular destination for tourists. It appears on a University virtual tour but is barely mentioned. In addition, few visitors know that Foster has been a part of the university for so long.

The interior lobby is decorated with terrazzo. The Maple-floored arena measures 85 feet by 164 feet. In addition, cloak rooms, trophy rooms, mezzanine lounges, and concession stands are now offices and storage. The ceiling is supported by steel trusses and hides a skylight. In 1941, Richard Foster passed away in the building’s office. In the early 1980s, the Union Programs concert series moved to Foster Auditorium. The concert series featured artists like R.E.M., the Go-Go’s, and the Neville Brothers.

The Foster Auditorium was named for Richard Clarke Foster, the president of the University of Alabama from 1937 to 1941. A full-court shot in a basketball game was made here in 1955 by George Linn. The shot made its way to Sports Illustrated and was recognized by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. A brass marker was placed on the gym floor in honor of the historic moment.

Meeting room reservation procedure

Foster study rooms are available for reservation for faculty, staff, and groups of students. These rooms are ideal for group study, but should be reserved no more than two weeks in advance. To reserve a meeting room, use the online system. When reserving, remember to include the time needed to set up and take down the room. This time must be accommodated within the regular operating hours. Also, remember to cancel your reservation at least fifteen minutes before closing.

All group members must follow library rules and policies. The room cannot be used for illegal meetings or activities. A library staff member may deny a request if it is not in line with the library’s mission or the rules. In addition, meeting room reservations are not guaranteed without advanced notice.

If you need to use a screen for a presentation, make sure to specify your needs on the reservation form. Please note that there is no technology support available after 5 pm. You should contact the library staff to arrange for the technology you need.

If you need to reserve a room for a large group, you should be aware that noise level must be low enough to not disturb other library patrons. Food and beverages are not permitted in unreserved meeting rooms.

Expectations

Faculty and staff are soon to see new updates to Foster Auditorium and its study rooms. These changes will include updated expectations. Beginning this fall, the Libraries will use a new room reservation system, LibCal, to schedule library group study rooms. Before that, the Libraries used EMS, but LibCal will allow students and staff to schedule study rooms online.
